About TheHobbyist

A passion-driven brand making products that spark curiosity, creativity and learning — for kids and adults alike. Built in India, for India and the world.

Our Story

TheHobbyist was born from a simple belief: the best products come from genuine passion, not boardroom decisions. Founded in 2022 by an IIT Kanpur alumnus with 18+ years of experience in technology and product development, TheHobbyist started as a side project — and quickly became a full-blown mission.

The spark came from a frustration shared by many Indian parents: finding educational toys and tools that were genuinely good, made in India, and didn't cost a fortune. Most options were either imported (expensive, not designed for Indian contexts), or cheap knock-offs that fell apart after a week.

So we decided to build our own. Starting with educational puzzles and games, TheHobbyist has grown into a multi-product brand spanning physical toys, books, and free software — all built with the same core philosophy: thoughtful design, genuine value, and passion for craft.

Our Founder

Amit Singhai graduated from IIT Kanpur — one of India's premier engineering institutions — and went on to build a career spanning 18+ years in technology and product development. Having worked on products used by millions, Amit brings a rare combination of engineering rigour and product intuition to TheHobbyist.

The same discipline that goes into enterprise software now goes into designing a tangram puzzle that keeps a 5-year-old engaged for hours, or building a POS application that a kirana store owner in tier-2 India can use without any training.

Amit is reachable at amit@thehobbyist.in and is genuinely interested in hearing from customers, educators and fellow makers.

What We Make

🧩 Toys & Educational Kits — Our physical products include the rainbow Tangram++, AutoCount board game, multi-theme jigsaw puzzles (35-piece and 80-piece), and Hindi Varnmala learning kits. All are manufactured in India and sold on Amazon.in. Designed to be genuinely educational without being boring.

💻 Free Software — We build practical desktop and web apps and give them away for free. Bizzy Lite is a full-featured offline POS for non-GST small businesses. HomeServer 2.0 lets you share files across your home network in one click. TheOrganizer sorts your messy folders automatically. Because good tools shouldn't require a subscription.

📚 Books — Coming soon: a growing range of activity books, coloring books, Hindi poetry and more — designed to make reading and creative time genuinely enjoyable for Indian kids.

🖨️ 3D Printed Items — We're exploring 3D printed educational and decorative items. Stay tuned.

Our Philosophy

We believe great products should be accessible — our software is free, our toys are priced fairly. They should be honest — no dark patterns, no hidden subscriptions, no upsells. And they should be made well — built with the same care you'd want if you were the customer.

We're a small team with big ambitions. Every product we ship reflects hours of thought about the user experience, the educational value, and the quality of the craft. We'd rather ship one great product than ten mediocre ones.

Thank you for supporting TheHobbyist. Every Amazon purchase, every download, every kind word keeps us building.
